Dance to Hiphopera and check raw MEET with INTERACTIONS SA-NL

Only a few days until the launch of Interactions SA-NL, an exciting two-year collaborative, cultural programme between South Africa and the Netherlands. Looking for new connections, inspiration and creating new plays, music or dance. Over the course of 2010, Dutch performing artists, musicians and theatre groups will work with young talent, renowned artists and theatre companies from South Africa to create groundbreaking co-productions. The result: powerful and innovative theatre, dance and music productions that are inspired by the rich South African cultural traditions and its vibrant urban and community art forms.

In 2010, approximately 15 productions will be presented at different festivals and theatres throughout South Africa, such as Infecting the City Festival, Cape Town; Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees in Oudsthoorn and the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.

We will be swinging at the launch on the beats of Afrikaaps, a funky ensemble mixing different music styles. Hip Hop poet and performer Jitsvinger, jazz pianist Kyle Shepherd and singer and poet Blaq Pearl trace the origins of Afrikaans, combining various musical styles like Ghoema and Kaapse Klopse, poetry and video. In true hip-hop style, this cutting-edge hiphopera looks at the language of the people of the Cape and its different influences.

The well-known Infecting the City Festival and mr. Ibrahim Quraishi will present the production Meet Market, which will be performed throughout the Festival in Cape Town in public places. Drawing attention to the past and making linkages to the present.
